This is a widely circulated folk tale. The Widower Seeker is a creature rumored to frequently appear during wartime. It lures compassionate humans and preys on them by mimicking the sound of weeping and taking on the appearance of a human face. While the idea of this story serves as a cautionary tale against trusting appearances, the existence of the Widower Seeker became increasingly "confirmed" as war spread.
